d23f28cca2 test(win_scrolled_resized_spec): fix flaky test (#37942) 2026-02-18 21:10:22 +08:00

da8de99d0b fix(window): use real last buffer of closed window
Problem: close_buffer autocmds may switch buffers at the last moment when
closing a window, causing terminal_check_size to prefer the size of a closed
window, or TabClosed to set an old <abuf>.

Solution: use the actual last buffer, similar to what TabClosed did before.

NOTE: If buffer was unloaded/deleted (not wiped), then TabClosed's <abuf> may
not use it. (w_buffer = NULL) Maybe odd, but it's how it worked before anyhow.

Relies on close_buffer reliably setting w_buffer to NULL if freed, otherwise
buf_valid is better. Only concern I see is if the window wasn't in the window
list after closing the buffer (close_buffer won't set it to NULL then), but then
win_close{_othertab} should've returned earlier.

d945a93d69 fix(autocmd): potential TabClosed UAF, always set abuf
Problem: win_free_mem can free w_buffer (via qf_free_all), which may cause a
heap use-after-free if used as TabClosed's <abuf>. I think TabClosed is also the
only event to conditionally set <abuf> not based on event type.

Solution: use the buffer saved by the bufref. Fall back to curbuf if invalid,
like WinResized/WinScrolled.

NOTE: Not always equivalent if close_buffer autocmds switch buffers at the last
moment; previously <abuf> would be set to that buffer. Fixed in next commit.

4260f73e13 fix(messages): unwanted newlines with ext_messages #37733
Problem: Newlines intended to write messages below the cmdline or to
mark the start of a new message on message grid are emitted
through ext_messages. This results in unnecessary newlines for
a UI that has decoupled its message area from the cmdline.
msg_col is set directly in some places which is not transmitted
          to msg_show events.
Various missing message kind for list commands.
Trailing newlines on various list commands.

Solution: Only emit such newlines without ext_messages enabled.
Use msg_advance() instead of setting msg_col directly.
          Assign them the "list_cmd" kind.
Ensure no trailing newline is printed.

Usually the Ctrl-C cancels the following :qa!, but sometimes it doesn't,

6d2330f50d fix(autocmd): parsing of comma-separated buflocal patterns
Problem: patterns after a buffer-local pattern in a comma-separated aupat are

Solution: ensure pat refers to the original buffer after each pattern, not the

e265cc28f9 refactor(test): deprecates functions in some tests #36972
Problem: feed_command, nvim_buf_set_option, nvim_buf_get_number, and exc_exec
are marked as deprecated.

Solution: Remove them from the test units in api/buffer_spec, autocmd/focus_spec,
ui/input_spec, and editor/put_spec.

Some test units only used a few deprecated functions, so creating a separate PR
for each would be excessive. Therefore, several were combined into a single PR.

6a409e0507 fix(terminal): don't trigger TextChangedT for unrelated redraws
Problem: TextChangedT fires depending on whether Nvim needs to update_screen
while in terminal mode. This makes little sense as redraws can be completely
unrelated to the terminal. Also, TextChanged could be fired from changes in
terminal mode after returning to normal mode.

Solution: trigger it when b:changedtick changes, like other such events. Happens
when invalid cells are refreshed, though is no longer affected by cursor
changes. Don't fire TextChanged from changes in terminal mode after leaving.

Unlike the other TextChanged* events, I've elected to not have it be influenced
by typeahead. Plus, unlike when leaving insert mode when no TextChangedI events
are defined, I don't trigger TextChanged when returning to normal mode from
changes in terminal mode (is that a Vim bug?)

Curiously, Vim's TextChangedT is different; it's tied to its terminal cursor
redraws, which triggers pretty eagerly (but is unaffected by unrelated redraws)
- usually *twice* when data is sent to the terminal (regardless of whether it
causes any visible changes, like incomplete escape codes; wasn't true for Nvim).

Not clear to me how this event was actually intended to work, but this seems to
make the most sense to me.

c845f1923d fix(terminal): patch various autocommand-related holes
Problem: autocommands can cause various problems in terminal mode, which can
lead to crashes, for example.

Solution: fix found issues. Move some checks to terminal_check and guard against
autocommands messing with things. Trigger TermEnter/Leave after terminal mode
has changed/restored most state. Wipeout the correct buffer if TermLeave
switches buffers and fix a UAF if it or WinScrolled/Resized frees the terminal
prematurely.

These changes also allow us to remove the buffer restrictions on TextChangedT;
they were inadequate in stopping some issues, and WinScrolled/Resized was
lacking them anyway.

4fadc21e38 fix(window): disallow closing autocmd window in other tabpage
Problem: unlike win_close, win_close_othertab could be used to close the
autocommand window from a different tabpage. This causes aucmd_restbuf to close
the wrong window, potentially causing a crash.

Solution: disallow closing it. Also replace a deprecated use of exc_exec in the
test file.

05a83265f9 fix(autocmd): fire TabClosed after freeing tab page
Problem: TabClosed is fired after close_buffer is called (after b_nwindows is
decremented) and after the tab page is removed from the list, but before it's
freed. This causes inconsistencies such as the removed tabpage having a valid
handle and functions like nvim_tabpage_get_number returning nonsense.

Solution: fire it after free_tabpage. Try to maintain the Nvim-specific
behaviour of setting `<amatch>` to the old tab page number, and the
(undocumented) behaviour of setting `<abuf>` to the buffer it was showing
(close_buffer sets w_buffer to NULL if it was freed, so it should be OK pass it
to apply_autocmds_group, similar to before).

981d4ba45e fix(eval): winnr('$') counts non-current hidden/unfocusable windows #34207
Problem: Non-visible/focusable windows are assigned a window number,
whereas commands that use this window number skip over them.

Solution: Skip over non-visible/focusable windows when computing
the window number, unless it is made the current window
through the API in which case an identifiable window number
is still useful. This also ensures it matches the window
number of the window entered by `<winnr>wincmd w` since
          403fcacf.

c4e52d604c vim-patch:9.1.1413: spurious CursorHold triggered in GUI on startup (#34195)
Problem: spurious CursorHold triggered in GUI on startup
Solution: init global did_cursorhold flag to true
          (Gary Johnson)

When Vim is started in GUI mode, the CursorHold autocommand event is
triggered 'updatetime' milliseconds later, even when the user has not
pressed a key. This is different from the behavior of Vim in terminal
mode, which does not trigger a CursorHold autocommand event at startup,
and contradicts the description of the CursorHold event in ":help
CursorHold", which states that the event is "[n]ot triggered until the
user has pressed a key".

The fix is to change the initial value of did_cursorhold from FALSE to
TRUE. While it is true that the CursorDone event has not been done yet
at startup, it should appear to have been done until the user presses
a key.

289c9d21cb fix(autocmds): once=true Lua event-handler may call itself #29544
Problem:
Event handler declared with `once=true` can re-trigger itself (i.e. more
than once!) by calling `nvim_exec_autocmds` or `:doautocmd`.

Analysis:
This happens because the callback is executed before deletion/cleanup
(`aucmd_del`). And calling `aucmd_del` before `call_autocmd_callback`
breaks the autocmd execution...

Solution:
Set `ac->pat=NULL` to temporarily "delete" the autocmd, then restore it
after executing the callback.

0dd933265f feat(terminal)!: cursor shape and blink (#31562)
When a terminal application running inside the terminal emulator sets
the cursor shape or blink status of the cursor, update the cursor in the
parent terminal to match.

This removes the "virtual cursor" that has been in use by the terminal
emulator since the beginning. The original rationale for using the
virtual cursor was to avoid having to support additional UI methods to
change the cursor color for other (non-TUI) UIs, instead relying on the
TermCursor and TermCursorNC highlight groups.

The TermCursor highlight group is now used in the default 'guicursor'
value, which has a new entry for Terminal mode. However, the
TermCursorNC highlight group is no longer supported: since terminal
windows now use the real cursor, when the window is not focused there is
no cursor displayed in the window at all, so there is nothing to
highlight. Users can still use the StatusLineTermNC highlight group to
differentiate non-focused terminal windows.

BREAKING CHANGE: The TermCursorNC highlight group is no longer supported.

Before calling "attach" a screen object is just a dummy container for
